Overview
AIG Travel Guard is the nation’s largest provider of travel insurance and assistance, offering consumers a variety of travel insurance plans, all with comprehensive travel protection and assistance services – and backed by superior customer service. As a wholly owned subsidiary of AIG Travel, Inc., a member company of American International Group, Inc., Travel Guard is part of the world’s largest international insurance organization offering a wide range of insurance products through a variety of distribution channels in over 130 countries and jurisdictions throughout the world.

History: From the Basement to 800 Employees in 20 Worldwide Locations
In 1982, John Noel, former Vice President at Sentry Insurance, one of the nation’s largest mutual insurance companies, addressed the need for adequate protection for the many potential losses faced by travelers in the United States and abroad. Noel created Travel Guard- a comprehensive travel insurance program and purchased the rights to the Travel Guard product in 1985. For the first few years of the company’s existence, Noel, his family and a handful of employees operated the travel insurance business out of the basement of his home, generating about $5 million per year in gross premiums.

As the company grew, Noel moved operations out of his basement to a small office in the local YMCA, then to a larger office, finally settling into its current space in a stately former grand hotel, where the company employs more than 600 people. In May 2006, New York based American International Companies, Inc. (AIG) acquired Travel Guard. Travel Guard remains based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin with John Noel continuing to serve as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.
