Travel Guard’s Baggage Coverage can help ease the burden and stress of lost, stolen or damaged luggage by providing reimbursement for covered items.
Baggage Coverage is included on all Travel Guard travel insurance base plans, although on certain plans you can purchase higher benefit limits as part of a baggage upgrade. In the event your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged during your trip, Baggage Coverage can provide reimbursement for recovering or replacing covered personal items.
If your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged you can submit a claim to request reimbursement. Be sure to obtain the required documentation for your claim when necessary – like an incident or police report if your luggage is stolen.
Yes, there are limitations with regard to reimbursements for Baggage Coverage. These limitations vary by travel insurance plan and item. Jewelry, watches, furs and electronic devices have an aggregate coverage amount on most plans, and all items have a per-item limit. Details of Baggage Coverage and limits can be found in your Policy of Insurance.
While it is possible to file a claim on your baggage without a receipt, covered items costing over $150 without a receipt will not be reimbursed for more than $150.
When you’re looking at travel insurance plans, it’s important to understand what you are purchasing. The best way to do this is to read over the policy of insurance.
Baggage Delay is a coverage on your Travel Guard travel insurance plan that may reimburse you for the cost of purchasing certain necessary personal items when your luggage is delayed or misdirected for a significant period of time (the length of the delay varies by plan).
Necessary personal effects are items such as clothing and toiletries that were in your luggage and necessary for your trip.
If you’re traveling and your luggage is delayed or misdirected, save the receipts of the necessary items you purchase. You can file a claim to request to be reimbursed for those essential items.
No, Baggage Delay is a separate coverage within your Travel Guard travel insurance plan, which may provide reimbursements for necessary personal items while your baggage gets to your intended destination.
The Baggage Delay benefit can only be claimed if the delay is caused by a common carrier. Other exclusions can be found in your travel insurance plan, which should be reviewed before heading off on your vacation.
The specific documentation needed for your baggage claim will depend on the reason for delay/loss and the items you are claiming for. Below is a list of documentation that may be required.
There may be additional documents required based on your specific claim. You can start the process of filing a claim online with our claims portal or you can call us directly if you have specific questions.
We’ve used Travel Guard for all of our overseas trips for the past five years – and because of the people we interact with at Travel Guard – we will continue to use them for future trips. To a person – and consistently – they have been positive, friendly, patient, professional and extremely helpful in making sure we have the right coverages for the type of trips we’re taking. We’ve never processed a claim but I would imagine the folks in that area are of similar caliber. The peace of mind of having the coverage has substantially reduced the apprehensions associated with global travel.
