Don't forget travel insurance!
It’s likely that there’s a National Park within your reach to go discover! National Park week is next month (April 21 – 29) and summer is around the corner, even if it doesn’t quite feel like it yet. Both of these are perfect reasons to get out and explore America’s many National Parks.
Research
Not sure which National Park to put at the top of your list? Visit nps.gov for a complete list of National Parks. You can search by state or check out some of the interesting events happening throughout the parks.
Timing
Some National Parks can get crowded during peak season, try visiting during shoulder seasons (right when kids go back to school or before they get out). If you’re traveling with kids and summer travel is easiest, try timing some early morning visits to the park or later evening under a full moon. You’ll get to experience less crowds and feel like you have the park to yourself.
Junior Rangers
Speaking of traveling with kids, National Parks are a great destination for little ones. The National Park System has an activity based Junior Ranger program conducted in almost all parks which allows kids the opportunity to “explore, learn, and protect” as the Junior Ranger motto says.
There’s an App
The point of visiting a National Park might be to escape your electronics, but there are some apps that could help make your trip even better. National Parks by National Geographic offers park guides and interactive maps. AllTrails shows you all the trails you can take and tracks your progress. There’s even a compass app for any wandering you plan to do.
Protect our Parks
Take only pictures, and leave only footprints. When you visit a National Park leave it in a better condition that you found it. If you see trash, throw it out. Don’t disturb the animals. Help to protect our parks so that generations to come can visit these beautiful places.

Established in 1872 Yellowstone is the oldest National Park in the United States. The park sees over 4 million visitors every year.2 With sites like Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and the Grizzly and Wolf Discover Center it’s no wonder why so many people come to visit. Yellowstone is 3,472 square miles and spans three states so it’ll take more than one visit to hit everything!

What are Travel Guard® customers saying?
“My husband and I were on a cruise in Alaska. Suddenly while on our trip, my retina detached from my eye. The ship’s doctor called Travel Guard who made all my arrangements to get me the care I needed. A great Travel Guard representative kept in touch with me and made sure that we saw the physicians that could help me and saw to it that we made all of our connections to get home. We were driven to each airport, met, and driven home, to our front door. Travel Guard reimbursed us for our interrupted trip and other covered expenses that we incurred. We are cruising again with Travel Guard.”
