When certain urgent safety events interrupt your vacation, Travel Guard’s Security Evacuation coverage is there to help.

When it comes to travel, there’s likely to be a few elements out of your control. However, some events such as a natural disaster, a political or military issue or an attack on your being, require more assistance to get you to a safe place. That’s why there’s Security Evacuation coverage from Travel Guard.

What is Security Evacuation coverage?

Security Evacuation coverage is a coverage available on select Travel Guard travel insurance plans that provides coverage for evacuating you from certain dangerous situations. If you find yourself in this type of situation, typical resources that you might use for securing travel arrangements may be unavailable. Travel Guard’s specialized team can make all necessary arrangements once an evacuation has been determined as necessary.

How do I use the Security Evacuation benefit during my trip?

You must contact Travel Guard when you think you need a Security Evacuation. Travelers can contact our 24/7 travel emergency services team for assistance with assessing the situation to determine if a Security Evacuation is required. If an evacuation is deemed necessary, Travel Guard will make all travel arrangements to the nearest point of safety.

What documentation do I need to file a claim for Security Evacuation?

Security Evacuations are more involved than other situations, so the specific documentation needed for your claim will depend on the situation you were in.

  • Below is a list of documentation that may be required.
  • Travel Guard claim form
  • Receipts for any transportation expenses

Receipts for items like food and lodging during transport to the Nearest Place of Safety, as defined in the travel insurance plan.

There may be additional documents required based on your specific claim. You can start the process of filing a claim online with our claims portal or you can call us directly if you have specific questions.

Common Questions

The Security Evacuation coverage can be crucial when traveling to countries with higher-level travel advisories or during the storm seasons of your destination.

The Security Evacuation coverage is a part of the Deluxe Plan from Travel Guard, or as a part of the  Security Bundle optional upgrade to the Preferred and Essential plans, which adds more coverage for your trip.

Since Security Evacuation is a coverage included on the Deluxe Plan or as an optional upgrade to your Preferred or Essential Travel Guard travel insurance plan, it’s not possible to only get coverage for this specific coverage only. However, a travel insurance plan offers a variety of coverages that travelers may find useful, such as Trip Delay, Baggage Coverage, Trip Interruption and more.

When you’re looking at travel insurance plans, it’s important to understand what you are purchasing. The best way to do this is to read over the policy of insurance.

Reviews and Testimonials

A day before returning back from Italy, my husband and I found that our connecting flight was cancelled because of a strike in Madrid. The airline re-booked my husband on one airline and me on another, with an overnight stay in Madrid. I tried reaching the airlines by phone [so we could coordinate our trip back on the same flight]; we even went to the airport personally, all to no avail. Our needs weren’t being accommodated. Finally, I called Travel Guard’s travel assistance center. Travel Guard’s representative took over and within a couple of hours, she was able to schedule us on the same flight on the day we had originally planned to return. We were able to enjoy the little time we had left without the stress and worry that we had previously experienced. I will highly recommend Travel Guard.
