Trip Saver

Don’t let the weather cancel your vacation plans.

Bad weather can threaten your travel plans. That’s why there’s Trip Saver coverage from Travel Guard.

Trip Saver is a unique coverage from Travel Guard on certain travel insurance plans. When bad weather is headed your way, don’t cancel your travel plans. Instead, with Trip Saver you have coverage to move your departure date sooner if your travel supplier would otherwise cancel your travel plans.

What is Trip Saver coverage?

Trip Saver coverage provides reimbursement for extra expenses that come along with moving your departure date earlier to avoid Common Carrier cancellations. If a snowstorm is headed towards your departure location, and your airline is cancelling flights, you may have coverage to move your flight earlier to avoid the snowstorm and get to your vacation.

What documentation do I need to file a claim for Trip Saver?

The specific documentation needed for your Trip Saver claim will depend on the reason for your travel plan changes and any additional costs spent before departure. Below is a list of documentation that may be required.

  • Travel Guard claim form
  • Documentation to support the reason for adjusting your departure date or location
  • Proof of travel/reservations
  • Receipts for any claimed expenses

There may be additional documents required based on your specific claim. You can start the process of filing a claim online with our claims portal or you can call us directly if you have specific questions.

Example Scenario:

You are going on a trip to the Bahamas to escape the winter weather and plan on leaving from the airport closest to your home. The day before you plan to leave, you find out a blizzard is heading to your area. You receive a notification from your airline that they are canceling all flights from your originally scheduled airport for tomorrow when the storm is expected to be at its worst. The airline offers to move your flight to this afternoon, so you can beat the storm and get to your sunny vacation.

In this scenario, because the Common Carrier (your airline) was cancelling flights due to Inclement Weather, and you were able to secure an earlier departure date in order to avoid cancelling your entire vacation – Travel Guard’s Trip Saver coverage may help cover those extra costs associated with flying out a day early. You may have had additional ticket costs, a change fee and even an extra night in a hotel at your destination. With Travel Guard, you can file a claim to request to be reimbursed for those extra costs. Remember to read your travel insurance plan’s complete terms and conditions before booking to help ensure you choose the coverages you need. All claims under Travel Guard travel insurance plans must be reviewed by the appropriate claims personnel.

Reviews and Testimonials

Travel Guard was a fantastic help following a weather-related event which stranded my wife and me on Eleuthera in the Bahamas for four days. We were able to get a charter plane back after only two stranded days and this we had to do to get back to work--as we both work at a university, we had to return to be able to keep our classes rolling and our students up to snuff. Travel Guard covered a lot of our extra expenses after we filed a claim, and we will continue using them forever and a day.
