Cancel For Any Reason

If your trip is over before it begins, Travel Guard has your back.

Travel Guard’s Cancel for Any Reason is an optional add-on coverage for your travel insurance plan that provides coverage of a percentage of non-refundable trip costs for trip cancellations that otherwise wouldn’t be covered.

Definition: What is Cancel for Any Reason?

The Cancel for Any Reason coverage allows you to cancel your trip for any reason that is not otherwise covered on your base plan (so long as you cancel your trip more than two days before your departure date). Whether you’ve just changed your mind, or your plant sitter cancelled – you can submit a claim for your prepaid and non-refundable expenses. Cancel for Any Reason coverage is a percentage of your original trip cost (typically 50%). It’s tough to plan for everything, but with Cancel for Any Reason you can have additional peace of mind knowing you have the coverage you may need when life throws you the unexpected.

How do I use the Cancel for Any Reason coverage?

If you’ve decided to cancel your trip for a reason that isn’t covered under Trip Cancellation (and it’s more than two days before your departure date), you can file a claim and request reimbursement under Cancel for Any Reason if you’ve added it to your plan. Cancel any travel plans directly with suppliers and submit documentation to Travel Guard when filing a claim. For more information on your travel insurance coverages, be sure to review your travel insurance plan.

What documentation do I need to file a claim for Cancel for Any Reason?

The specific documentation needed for your claim will depend on the reason for your cancellation and what expenses you incurred. Below is documentation that may be required:

  • Travel Guard claim form

  • Documents showing proof of payment for the trip

  • Trip invoice/confirmation showing the details of the trip

  • Proof of unused tickets and reservations

  • Documents showing cancellation

There may be additional documents required based on your specific claim. You can start the process of filing a claim online with our claims portal or you can call us directly if you have specific questions.

Example Scenario:

You’ve had a trip to the Bahamas planned for a while, but a week before your departure date you’re invited to a concert in town with a friend. You decide you’d rather stay for the concert. Since this reason likely would not be covered under the Trip Cancellation coverage, you’re glad you decided to add on that Cancel for Any Reason coverage!

In this scenario, you can file a claim and request reimbursement under Cancel for Any Reason. Your benefit limit is typically 50% of your insured trip cost. For example, if your trip cost was originally $600, you’d have a benefit limit of $300 in Cancel for Any Reason coverage. Remember to read your travel insurance plan’s complete terms and conditions before booking to help ensure you have the coverages you may need.  All claims under Travel Guard travel insurance plans must be adjudicated by the appropriate claims personnel.

Common Questions

Cancel for Any Reason coverage can only be purchased at the time you purchase your base plan and only within 15 days of your initial trip payment.

With Travel Guard’s Trip Cancellation coverage there are specific reasons for cancelling a trip that provide coverage . If the reason for cancelling your trip falls outside of those covered reasons you wouldn’t have coverage. Cancel for Any Reason does not have exclusions, so you are able to cancel no matter the reason. However, with Cancel for Any Reason you’ll only get a percent of your travel investment reimbursed – but that’s better than nothing!

Your trip must be cancelled at least two days prior to your departure date in order to use the Cancel for Any Reason coverage.

When you’re looking at travel insurance plans, it’s important to understand what you are purchasing. The best way to do this is to read over the policy of insurance.

Reviews and Testimonials

I insured my trip on a river cruise with Travel Guard. Unfortunately, two weeks before I was due to travel I became ill and my physician said I could not complete my travel plans. Filing a claim was painless and representatives were helpful and supportive throughout the entire process. I received my reimbursement quickly, the peace of mind my Travel Guard policy afforded me was immeasurable, and I’m very grateful to have chosen them as my provider.
